Since its first meeting on Friday 8 October 1948, IDSME has met almost every Friday evening.

After its formation in 1948 the Society led a nomadic life until acquiring a site in the centre of Ickenham where it built and opened its Clubhouse in 1955.

In 1969 the Society opened the first section of its ground level track (3.5 and 5ins gauges) which now includes a terminus station, Ickenham St Giles, two signalboxes, an engine shed, two tunnels and a booking office.

Alongside a comprehensive workshop has been developed.

While railways may dominate, members have a wide interest in model engineering, engineering and technical subjects generally.

As well as being used for general meetings, the Clubhouse is also home to the model railway group. Although the three Society layouts are OO, members are also involved in EM and O gauges.

General meetings are held every Friday evening with a programme of lectures and demonstrations from October until Easter. The Miniature Railway is open to the public on the first Saturday of the month from April to December.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in models or engineering.
